SEND Policy

SEND Information Report 23-24

At Barnes Junior School, we are committed to offering an inclusive curriculum to ensure the best possible progress for all of our pupils, whatever their needs or abilities.

The Children and Families Bill 2014 states that Local Authorities and schools are required to publish and keep under review information about services they expect to be available for the children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) aged 0-25. This is the ‘Local Offer’. The intention of the Local Offer is to improve choice and transparency for families. It will also be an important resource for parents in understanding the range of services and provision in the local area.

More information on the ‘Local offer’ can be found here:

SEND Ranges

From September 2019, Sunderland Schools have been using the SEND Ranges Guidance produced by Sunderland Local Authority to identify the needs of pupils and put into place the appropriate support. The SEND range descriptors will provide a core framework for all professionals working with the pupil and will give greater clarity for parents, families and carers in terms of what their child’s needs are and the provision they are receiving.

Parent/Carer forum

At Barnes Juniors, we take on board any suggestions made by our pupils or parents in order to ensure we are supporting all of our families in the best possible way. We always strive to communicate with our families effectively, working collaboratively to enable all of our children to fulfil their potential.

Please find below more information from our parent/carer forum held on the 28th April 2021, which outlines some of the support we provide in school.

Information on the Sunderland Parent Carer forum can also be found by following this link:  https://sunderlandpcf.co.uk/

The Sunderland Parent Carer forum is a parent led, voluntary group of parents, grandparents and carers of children and young people with SEND, who aim to give parents/carers a voice in a relaxed environment. They also hold coffee mornings and other events relating to SEND, the details of which can be found here https://sunderlandpcf.co.uk/diary-dates/ on our Facebook page and Class dojo.
